Sara Neafus Grubbs, 96 of Marshall gained her wings on Monday, February 26, 2018 after fighting many medical battles. She was born in Groveton, TX on March 29, 1921 to W.C. and Mollie Matthews. She was raised in Henderson, TX graduated from high school there then proceeded to Baylor University where she was a third generation legacy.
A Louisiana Cajun, Harry Neafus walked into Sara’s life and swept her off her feet. He moved her to Marshall and they were married at St. Joseph Catholic Church. College became an afterthought as they spent 53 wonderful years together, raising a family, traveling, cooking, fishing, and enjoying lifetime friends.
Later in life Sara married her second love, Lloyd R. (Buck) Grubbs. They spent five years traveling in their motor home, fishing and enjoying their retirement. Sara loved her church and The Legion of Mary. She also enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, and having her hair done.
She was preceded in death by both husbands. She is survived by her loving daughter, Judy Neafus Dusenbury of Houston, TX; step daughters, Linda Harlin, Connie Grubbs-Crowe, Kathy Grubbs Rich; nephews, Jim Barnard and wife Cathy, Mike Bell; nieces, Linda Bell Heath and husband Steve, and Pat Neafus Foret; and cousin, Martha Ellen Nevill.
A Memorial Mass will be said on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 12:00 noon. Celebrating the Mass will be Msgr. Zach. A reception will follow the Mass at the church hall.
