Minnie Pet Cody Hooker, aged 89 of Marshall, passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2021. She was born in Mt. Vernon, Texas to the late Willard F. Cody and Thelma Jones Cody on April 4, 1931.
Pet attended the University of North Texas, where she earned her degree in Journalism. She proceeded to use her talents in several areas during her working life. She began as a writer for the Dallas Morning News, then turned to abstract mapping. She taught high-school English and Journalism at Marshall High School, both sponsoring the campus newspaper and creating a Broadcast Journalism department with weekly radio shows. After teaching, she worked as an oil and gas land-person until her retirement.
She loved music and was a lifelong member of the Marshall Music Club. She sang in the First Methodist Choir and played the piano. She was also an avid reader and loved to garden. As a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, she spent many hours researching the Church’s history.
She married Wendell Coy Hooker, Jr. and they lived in Marshall, raising two children, Wendell Cody Hooker, and Emily Hooker Snyder.
Pet is survived by her two children, four grandchildren, Matthew Hooker and his wife Kourtney, Taylor Hooker Oliver and her husband Kyle, Kathryn Snyder, Caroline Snyder, and great-grandchildren, Kash, Emerson and Elyse Oliver.
The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her at Reunion Inn, especially Jackie Wise Griffith and Staff. There will be a private graveside service at Colonial Gardens Cemetery, Marshall, TX. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to First Methodist Church Day School, or St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
