A Graveside Service will be held for Mary Helen Ray George, 79 of Jefferson, Texas on Thursday, September 8, 2022 at 11:00 at the Liberty Cemetery in Harleton, Texas.
Mary was born March 10, 1943 in Brinkley, Arkansas to Luther Ray and Goldie May Ray Shields. She passed from this life on September 1, 2022 in Longview, TX.
When Mary was 2 years old, her mother married William Uthel Shields, who raised her as his own. She married Lunis Rufus George Sr. on January 21,1961 in Marshall, Texas. She was a loving mother who stayed home and raised her kids (and grandkids). She was an avid reader and a true “crafter” who especially loved to cook and crochet. She enjoyed camping, fishing and attending Cody Wayne concerts. She was a true friend that everyone could count on at any time. She will be greatly missed.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 61 years, Rufus George, Sr. of Jefferson, Texas; daughters, Penney Price of Marshall, Texas; Susan Patterson and husband Ricky of Hallsville, Texas; sons, Rufus George Jr. and wife, Penny of Jefferson, Texas and Randy George and wife, Angie of Hallsville, Texas; Brother, Michael Shields and wife Phillis of Marshall, TX, grandchildren, Roger Hall, Willie Cloyd, Austin Cloyd, Jace Holley, C’Era Marlar, Bobby George, Nicholas George, James Tramel, Jessica Apple, Chrissy Patterson, Ali Patterson, Eric George, Kevin Locklear, Anthony Jones, and Savannah Duncan. She has 18 (and one on the way) great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Goldie and Uthel Shields and father Luther Ray, Daughter, Cheryl Cloyd, Siblings, David Shields, Peggy Brown, and Betty Waits, Grandson, Greg Jones and Great granddaughter, Lexi Jones.
In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made to St Judes Childrens hospital in Mary’s memory.
