Mrs Helen Joy Reynolds Wiggins Steele

December 29, 1927 ~ March 17, 2022 (age 94)


Graveside services will be held for Mrs. Helen Joy Reynolds Wiggins Steele, age 94, of Dallas, TX at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Algoma Cemetery South in Marshall, TX. Officiating are Helen’s nephews, Vince Troublefield of Woodlawn, TX and Greg Reynolds of Temple,TX.

Helen graduated from Marshall High School and quickly landed an accounting job at Universal Match-Thiokol in Karnack, Texas. She later met and married M.E. (Curley) Wiggins, and they operated a successful plumbing, heating and air conditioning business in the Marshall area.  The couple subsequently moved to Caddo Lake and operated Curley's Lodge and Marina for many years.  In later years, Helen was the business manager and head accountant for Medsafe in Marshall. Throughout her life, Helen enjoyed being with her family, particularly her grandchildren. She often took them fishing on Caddo Lake and shared her love of cooking, sewing, and gardening with them as well. Helen retired in Marshall but later moved to Dallas to be near her daughter and grandchildren. 

Helen was preceded in death by one daughter, Jetta Kay, as well as her mother, Beatrice, father, L.W., and siblings Shirley, Norma, and Wayne. She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Sandra Petersen of Dallas; her grandson and wife, Luke and Tawnyah Petersen and son, Duston Davis of Jonesville, Texas; Granddaughter and husband, Brandi and Sam Gruner and children, Clara and Ben, of Dallas; Granddaughter and husband, Holli and Dr. James Park and son, J.J.,  of Dallas, her sister, Marguerite Plummer, also of Dallas, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, beloved relatives and dear friends.

The family also wishes to extend a special thanks to The Forum and Park Lane Assisted Living, caregivers from Garden of Eden, and hospice personnel from Palomar Hospice for providing us all with love and support.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to North Texas Food Bank, Highway 80 Rescue Mission Medical Fund, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, or Children's Cancer Fund.
