Graveside services for Glenda Dorsey, age 81 years, of Hallsville, Texas will be at Noonday Cemetery north of Hallsville on April 9th at 2:00 pm officiated by Dan Manual of Crockett Road Church of Christ in Palestine and Joe Hancock of Hallsville Church of Christ. A visitation will be held at Sullivan Funeral Home in Marshall, Texas on April 8th from 5-7pm.
Glenda Rozell Cummings was born on January 17, 1941 in Athens, Texas and she died on April 2nd, 2022 in Longview, Texas. She was born to Carroll Cummings and Mildred Kinchen Cummings. At the age of 4 years, her mother passed away and several years later her father remarried to Margaret Miller Cummings. Glenda’s only sibling, Edith, was born in 1951. The family lived near Athens and Glenda attended the Athens school system graduating in 1959.
After graduation, Glenda moved to the Dallas area working in various jobs until she met her eventual husband, Gary Dorsey. They dated and were married in 1962 while Gary was stationed in the Air Force in Fort Worth. Their first child, Sherlyn, was born there in 1963. After 4 years of service, they moved back to Gary’s hometown of Hallsville, Texas and eventually into a home built by her father-in-law on Laurel Lane. A second daughter, Shonda, was born to them at the end of 1970. Glenda and Gary lived in the Hallsville area for about 57 years. She attended the Hallsville Church of Christ and later Alpine Church of Christ. Glenda received a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer in March of 2021 and became bedridden. She would watch church services on Youtube from the Crockett Road Church of Christ in Palestine, Texas led by Pastor Dan Manual. In the summer of 2021, Glenda decide she wanted to be baptized and this was overseen by Dan Manual in a heated swimming pool in Longview. She was transferred to the poolside by a wheelchair and lowered into the water by several people.
Glenda Dorsey is preceded in death by her father and mother and stepmother. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Gary Dorsey; her 2 daughters: Sherlyn of Silsbee, Texas and Shonda of Longview, Texas, 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; her sister, Edith of Tyler, Texas and numerous beloved relatives and dear friends.
