Gene Butler

Tribute

Gene Butler, 81 of Marshall, TX passed away on April 22, 2019 at his residence in Marshall. Mr. Butler was born December 19, 1938 in Boykins, Virginia to William Woodlee Butler and Effie Cornelia Smith Butler.
Gene attended Craddick High School and was a man of many trades, from the Air Force reserves to being a pilot in the Air Force, truck driver, restaurant owner, and a health inspector. He absolutely loved the Sheriff’s posse and was very passionate about the volunteer fire department. He was at every fire helping, he was one of the drivers of the fire truck (water truck).
He was preceded in death by his father, William Woodlee Butler; mother, Effie Cornelia Barbary; brothers, Leon Butler, Oscar Butler, and Logan Barbary, Jr.; and sister, Verlie Askew.
Mr. Butler is survived by his wife of 35 years, Theresa Butler of Marshall; son, Daniel Butler and wife Heather of Bowie, TX; daughters, Patty Lambeth and husband Donald of Chesapeake, VA, Tisha Callahan and husband Rickey of Hallsville, TX, and Danyall Underwood and husband Rockey of Marshall, TX; grandchildren, Wayne Hunt, Christy Jones and husband T.E., McKenzie Mayfield, Chevy Underwood, Ryleigh Underwood, Gemma Davis, Cash Callahan, Aubrey Jones, and Lincoln Callahan; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Linda, Minnie, Sandy, Brenda and husband Jerry; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. on Friday, April 24, 2020 at Sullivan Funeral Home, 100 East Travis Street, Marshall, TX. Private graveside services will be held at the Butler Family Cemetery in Marshall. Serving as pallbearers will be the members of the Nesbitt Fire Department and the Woodlawn Fire Department. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent in his name to the Nesbitt or Woodlawn Fire Departments in Gene’s honor.
