Funeral services will be conducted for Frances DeLane Townsend, 83 of Marshall on Monday, April 23, 2018 at 10:00 am at Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Officiating the service will be Rev. Mary Kathryn Kirkpatrick and Pastor Rusty Rustenhaven . Graveside services will follow at the Grove Hill Cemetery in Dallas, Tx at 3:30 pm. Visitation will be at the Sullivan Funeral Home on Sunday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Mrs. Townsend entered into rest on Monday, April 16, 2018 at Christus Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview. DeLane was born in Marshall and raised in Mineola, TX. She retired from Texas Instruments as a telecommunications supervisor with over thirty years of service. DeLane was very active in community affairs. She was a past Regent of the Martha McCraw Chapter of The Daughters of the American Revolution. She held various leadership roles in clubs including the Blue Chips Financial Club, and the League of Women Voters. Mrs. Townsend was also a Pink Lady at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Marshall. DeLane enjoyed genealogy and volunteered at the Harrison County Genealogical Society. Most of all she loved her family and traveling with her husband James. Mrs. Townsend was a faithful member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church for over fifteen years.
Mrs. Townsend was preceded in death by her first husband of thirty four years, D.J. Johnson; her parents, Robert Weston Smith and C.C. and Annie Maude Dempsey; one daughter, Janet Lane Petty; and one sister, Bobbie Ann Lyon. She is survived by her husband of fifteen years, James W. Townsend; one daughter, Julie Ann Purtill and husband Tom; grandchildren, Lauren Summers, Bonny Bain, Kandi Houchin, Ashley Ambriz, and Alison Simone; great-grandchildren, Melanie, Tristan, Kaylee, Jacob; one nephew, Dan Wesson; a large extended family, and a host of friends.
