Graveside services will be held for Mr. Joe Granger, age 89, of Marshall, TX on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at New Grover Cemetery in Marshall, TX. Bro. Don Nichols of New Hope Baptist Church in Marshall, TX and Bro. Ron Segers of Victory Baptist Church of Marshall,TX will be officiating. A time of visitation will be held on Friday, April 8, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Sullivan Funeral Home in Marshall, TX.

Joe Granger was born May 19, 1932 in Longview, TX to Rev. S.L. Granger and Mrs. Rena Hardin Granger. He passed peacefully from this life April 5, 2022 at his home in Marshall, TX, in his favorite recliner.
After Mr. Granger’s birth in the Little Beaumont Community, one mile north of Teneryville just off of Pine Tree Road, the family moved to Greggton in 1938. Joe attended Pine Tree School, graduating in 1949. He enlisted in the United States Navy on June 6, 1950 and went to boot camp in San Diego, CA. From there Mr. Granger attended US Fleet Sonar School, also in San Diego, CA. Joe attained the rank of Sonar Second Class Petty Officer before being honorably discharged in April of 1954. Mr. Granger attended Port Arthur College and obtained an FCC First Class License. He married the love of his life, Mrs. Louise Strong Granger on February 25, 1955. Mr. Granger worked as a ratio engineer for KBEL in Idabel, OK, KGAS in Carthage, TX, and KADO in Marshall, TX. Joe worked briefly in Combustions and Instruments at Lone Star Steel and in Longview as an electrician for R.G. Letourneau. With the opening of Alcoa Conductor Products, he went to work in the research lab as a lab technician, senior lab technician, and supervisor for 28 years before retiring in 1997. Mr. Granger was an active member of New Hope Baptist Church on FM 968 in Marshall, TX, where he served as Sunday School Director, Sunday School Teacher, and Song Leader. Joe was a member of the former Soda Lake Baptist Association and served one term as president of the association.

Mr. Joe Granger was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Murrell Granger, Glynn Granger, and Thomas Granger. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 67 wonderful years, Mrs. Betty Louise Granger; his children, Sheri Broadwater, Tammy Noriega and husband Jamo, and Michael Granger and wife Susan; his grandchildren, Bo Broadwater and wife Natalie, Kari Evans, Jennifer Terry and husband Jeremy, Kendra Burns and husband Heath, Jillian Granger and fiancé Richard Derhake, Matthew Granger and wife Kaori, and Rustie Evans, ten great grandchildren; his sister Pat Almquist, and a host of nieces, nephews, beloved relatives, and friends. Mr. Joe Granger is dearly loved and will be deeply missed.
