She married Julian Durward (J.D.) Nesbitt on April 6, 1951, at her parents’ home in Woodlawn, Texas. After moving to Longview Texas in 1973, Elaine and J.D. purchased a lake house at Lake Cherokee (Longview) where they enjoyed the last years of their life together. Elaine often referred to those years as their happiest. Many a worm and minnow filled those happy days fishing. They also loved watching the birds, visiting with their neighbors, and numerous rides in the blue boat. As members of Centre Presbyterian Church, during their active years in the lake community, Elaine and J.D. always served and supported the church. Elaine’s faith was strong and evident in the way she lived her life. After J.D.’s passing, Elaine enjoyed traveling all over the world with friends and her children. From Caribbean cruises, trips to Europe, China, Australia, New Zealand, New England and many trips to Pennsylvania, she lived life to the fullest. Always adventurous and always with a friendly smile!
Elaine and J.D. were blessed with three children. She delighted in them and adored her grandchildren. She is survived by her son, Jay Nesbitt and wife Lynette-Marshall, TX. ; daughter, Elyse (Nesbitt) McCoskey and husband Steve- Longview, TX; and daughter, Amy (Nesbitt) Waters and husband Chuck- Center Valley, PA. Grandchildren: Bryan, Jason, Emily, Tanner, Kyle and James Nesbitt; Archer and Cawley Waters; one great-grandchild, Benjamin Hesson. She also leaves behind many cousins with whom she was always very close, nieces and nephews who loved “Aunt Elaine” and many close friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, J.D. Nesbitt; her parents, Joe Will and Alma Hatley Westmoreland; and her younger brother, Billy Westmoreland.
The family would like to recognize and thank the staff at Hawkins Creek for their expert professionalism, overwhelming kindness and assistance over the last 3 years. Mom made many friends there and we appreciate and love you all for being with the family during this difficult time. Mom’s special and closest “angel” there was Kim Davenport, who helped us all in so many ways. There is a special place in heaven for those who help so much during these years.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request donations to Centre Presbyterian Church, Longview, TX; or Nesbitt Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 223, Marshall, TX 75671
