Graveside services for Doris Evelyn Purtle 92, of Woodlawn, TX will be held at 4:00 PM on Monday, June 3, 2019 at Chapelwood Memorial Gardens in Texarkana, TX. Visitation will be Sunday, June 2, from 4:00-6:00 PM at Sullivan Funeral Home in Marshall, TX.
Mrs. Purtle was born April 9, 1927 in Greenville, SC to Ethel and Byron Young. She passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2019 in Longview, TX surrounded by her family.
Upon graduation from Henderson High School, she attended St. Paul’s Hospital School of Nursing in Dallas, TX and earned her degree in nursing. In 1949, she married Elmer L. Purtle in Benton, AR. As a Registered Nurse, Mrs. Purtle touched many lives in numerous healthcare settings in Texas and Louisiana throughout her almost 50-year career, including the emergency rooms at St. Michael’s Hospital in Texarkana and Marshall Regional Medical Center in Marshall. She retired from nursing in 1997. She always enjoyed gardening, cooking, taking care of animals, and family get-togethers.
Mrs. Purtle was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Elmer; her parents, and dear friends, Lucille and Sonny Kunkel. She is survived by her daughter, Leslie Borcherding and husband Gary of Woodlawn; grand-daughter, Tracy Romo and husband Jonathan; and three great grand-children, Jackson, Ryan, and Henley Romo of Colleyville.
