H. Dewitt (Deedle) Hickey, Jr.

November 27, 1931 ~ March 3, 2018 (age 86)
H. Dewitt Hickey, Jr. known as Deedle entered into rest on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at his home in the presence of his family. Graveside services will be conducted at the Noonday Cemetery, Hallsville, Tx. on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at 11:00 am under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home. Officiating will be Bro. Jim Houston and Bro. Dick Sawyer.
Dewitt was born in Hallsville, Tx on November 27, 1931 to H. Dewitt Hickey, Sr. and Claudia Dickard Hickey. Dewitt married his high school sweetheart, Betty, on December 18, 1949. He went to work for the Kelly Plow Company of Longview in 1950. He was drafted by the Army in 1952 and served our country in Germany, he received an honorable discharge in 1954. After returning from the military Dewitt went to work in farm equipment sales and relocated to Lafayette, La. He worked for several farm implement companies including the Buhler Farm Equipment, Prime Manufacturing Co. and the South East Manufacturing Co. Later Dewitt became the Territory Manager for Implement Sales Co. out of Memphis, Tenn., and a distributor for Watt’s Brothers. Dewitt and Betty were members of the Deep South Farm Equipment Association and the Mid South Association.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Betty Jo Hickey, Betty was the love of his life and he treasured her deeply. They were faithful members of Fairview Baptist Church. Dewitt is also survived by three daughters, Beverly and Lee Fontenot of Maurice, La., Tiajuana and Greg Gough of Springdale, Ar., and Kelly and Charles Tinnin of Elysian Fields, Tx; one brother, Alfred Hill Hickey; grandchildren, Christie Kane and husband James, Matthew Lawless and wife Ana, Alexandria Gough, Hollie Duncan and husband Nicholas, Seth Ashley and wife Christina, Carly Vaughan and husband Kevin; great-grandchildren, Camille Kane, Benjamin Kane, Anah Kane, Nora Lawless, and Rylie Ashley; nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Boodie, Mike Hodgson, Glenn Whitworth, Mike Ferguson, and James Chamberlin.
The family would like to thank Dr. Gale of the Jefferson life Center in Jefferson,Tx, and Dr. Ted Trimble of Heritage Hospice for their loving care. Tremendous love and appreciation to medical team members, Toni Henderson, Amber Al-yyoob, Lana Blackwell, Sha- Rena Stevens, Jennifer Garrett, Kimberly Blizzard and Chaplains Mark Homer and Ken Guthrie for their professional service.
