A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at the Colonial Chapel of Sullivan Funeral Home.
Daisy Christine Mercer was born October 6, 1924, to Lizzie Woodley and Ex Brock Mercer in Elysian Fields, Texas. She was raised by her parents in Elysian Fields along with her seven siblings. She graduated from Elysian Fields High School in 1943. She and Garland Rich raised their four children in Waskom, TX. Widowed at 39, she later met and married JD Campbell on January 1, 1965 and they lived most of their lives in Ruston LA. After retirement, she and JD built a home on her family’s land in Woodleyville, TX.
Daisy loved being a Christian, a wife, a mother, a friend and a grandmother. She was a devoted homemaker and a business woman. If you had the privilege of visiting her at home, you were offered a drink and made to feel a part of the family immediately, as she always put her family first. She also had many accomplishments in the corporate world, working as a bookkeeper and managing several offices over the span of 30 years. The Ruston, LA chapter of American Business Women Association chose her as their Business Woman of the Year and she served as Vice President of that chapter. She would see it as a contribution to provide for her family. Daisy joined the Order of the Eastern Star in 1977 and she and her late husband, JD served as Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron. She was a member of Eastern Star for more than 50 years. She was also a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Elysian Fields, TX, and First United Methodist Churches in Waskom, TX and Ruston, LA. Daisy always enjoyed cooking while hosting family gatherings throughout the year and shared many recipes with her daughters, daughters in law and granddaughters. She also worked in her yard, fed her red birds and began taking and collecting photos of her family.
Daisy Mercer is preceded in death by her husband Garland Rich and late husband, JD Campbell; her son, Michael Campbell; and grandson, Wayne Rich; her brothers, Gordon and Tex Mercer; sisters, Mary McMahon, Dorothy Lester and Lindy Fisher. She is survived by her children, Carol Meshelle of Bossier City, LA, Buddy Rich and wife Norma of Jefferson, TX, Bill Rich of DeBerry, TX, and Cliff Rich and wife Teresa of Waskom, TX, Sandra McGee and husband Edward of Ft.
