Brenda Ready Ballard took the Hand of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and went to her heavenly home on Thursday, September 14, 2017 after battling cancer for a year and a half. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Sullivan Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Nolan Richey officiating. A visitation will be held at 2 PM with the service beginning at 3 PM.
The oldest of three children, Brenda was born on January 15, 1958 in Marshall to Marcia and Gerald Ready, and attended Paul Pewitt School of Omaha, TX. for most of her youth. The family moved back to Marshall where Brenda graduated high school. She attended Kilgore College for one year before going to work full time. She began working at her sister-in-law’s dress shop, and not long after, both Brenda and her husband Jim, opened their own business in Marshall. They both co-owned and operated Royal Hallmark, Cards and Gifts for 31 years. Two years ago, Brenda and Jim decided to move to Longview to be closer to family and restaurants.
At the age of 14, Brenda met Jim at her father’s car wash and seven years later they were married. They had one daughter, Crystal. Nothing would ever be more important to Brenda than her faith, family and friendships. Brenda had a love for all music of the 70’s. She, along with her husband and friends, attended concerts on a regular basis. She also enjoyed fishing off their cabin’s pier at Glass Club Lake. Just weeks before her passing, the final thing she wanted to do was take her family, along with grandkids, to Orange Beach, Alabama for a week vacation, which she did.
Recently, while spending most of their weekends at the lake in Omaha, Brenda and her husband began attending Concord Missionary Baptist Church. They soon felt at home there and became members.
She was preceded in death by both parents. Survivors include Jimmy Ballard, her husband of 38 years; daughter, Crystal Hurst and Husband Kenny ; two wonderful grandchildren, Samuel Cash Hurst and Emily Rae Lynn Hurst; one sister, Jo Ellen Joiner and husband Keven; one brother, Gerald Keith Ready and wife Shanda; and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.
