Mrs. Long went to her heavenly home on Monday, June 18, 2018 at the Life Care Hospital in Shreveport. She was born in Atkins, Arkansas and raised in Waskom, Texas where she graduated from Waskom High School. She and her husband, Don B. Long, Jr. were the owners and operators of Waskom Insurance and Real Estate for over 34 years. Mrs. Long was very active and charitable in the Waskom community, always there to help people and organizations in need. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Waskom where she raised her two sons. She later became a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Marshall. She shared her faith in Jesus Christ through teaching Sunday School and supporting all the missions of the church. She was always supportive of her loved ones and gave Godly advice without judgement. She loved “her Texas” where she could experience her creator through the smell of fresh cut meadows, the colors of the wild flowers, trees, and the waters of Caddo Lake. Most of all she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who was greatly loved by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Don B. Long, Jr.; her father, Virgil Andrew Philpot, her mother, Clara Philpot Lunsford and step- father, Mack Lunsford; one sister, Bennie Jean Tillack and husband Bill; and brother- in- law, J.D. Heard. She is survived by two sons, Donald “Donnie” Buford Long, III and wife Kathryn, and Michael Andrew Long; three grandchildren, Donald B. Long, IV and wife Caroline, Dayton Hollis Long and wife Bethany, and David Wendell Long; one sister, Lillian Dean Heard; great-grandchildren, Rylee, Avery, and Jaxon Long; nieces and nephews, Melissa Wilson and husband Randy, Melinda Jackson and husband Bob, David John Tillack and wife Sue, Craig Tillack and wife Kate, and Elizabeth Lauren Travis; great-nieces, Lilly Travis, Kandi Melton; and great-nephew, Gideon Travis.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Marshall.
