Bennie Ray Gasper, Sr. of Waskom passed away January 23, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 15, 1942 in Hallettsville, TX to Emma and Alvie Gasper. He was a truck driver most of his life, retiring from Yellow Freight Lines to be able to do what he really enjoyed, mowing lawns and starting A Little Bit of Heaven Polled Hereford cattle ranch. He married Mary McLeod on April 3, 1993 at St. Marys Catholic Church in Shreveport. He loved spending time with his family and collecting anything John Deere. Mr. Gasper is a true patriot, and never met any service person without saying, “Thank you for your service”.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Mary McLeod Gasper; children: Shelia McDonald (William), Bennie Gasper, Jr. (Karen), Brian Gasper, Cathy Sias (Oscar), Marvin Gasper (Nidia), Daniel Gasper (Christy), Stephen Oberle (Adrian), Jason Oberle (Amber); sisters: Vera Bott, Eula Craig, Martha Ham; brother: Donald Gasper; special sister-in-law: Diana McMillian; 12 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents: Emma and Alvie Gasper; sister: Twyla Bordelon and brother: Wayne Gasper.
A Mass will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 11 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 1465 West Texas Ave. Waskom, TX 75692. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Lawrence Catholic Church. Sullivan-funeralhome.com.
