Steve Alan Copeland

Services will be conducted at The First Baptist Church of Hallsville for Steve Alan Copeland, age 70, of Hallsville, TX, on Monday, August 7, 2017 at 2:00 pm. Officiating will be Judge Mike Smith assisted by Rev. Monty Pierce. A gathering of friends will follow the service in the church activity center.
Steve was received by his Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 27, 2017, in Scotland while on a golfing vacation with close friends. He was actually fulfilling an item on his bucket list by playing at St. Andrews “The Old Course " the day before.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, Gail Simpson Copeland; parents- in- law, Billy and Bonnie Boules; and a sister- in- law, Dixie Scott. He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 46 years, Shirley Copeland; his mother, Hazel Copeland; one son, Jace Copeland; two grandchildren , Casen and Cade Copeland; one sister, Linda Oliver and husband Mike; nephews, B.J. Moore and wife Julie and Kelly Moore; sister- in-law, Linda McCracken.
Steve was born and raised in Texarkana, TX, graduating from Texas High School where he played quarterback. He continued his football career on a scholarship to both Kilgore Junior College and Stephen F. Austin State University where he received a Masters of Education. After college, Steve worked as a coach at both Lufkin High School and Hallsville High School. A career change took him to Marshall Exploration, eventually retiring from El Paso Exploration. He continued to work after retirement at Camterra Oil and Gas as a senior landman, loving every minute of his job. He regarded his co- workers at Camterra as family members.
Steve made a profession of faith and was baptized in 1977 at First Baptist Church, Hallsville where he remained a faithful and active member. He enjoyed his time spent in the Pairs and Spares Sunday School class and served on various committees. Steve loved golf and played at many famous courses including Pebble Beach and Spy Glass in California. He loved to travel and always enjoyed a good steak. Most of all Steve was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. " Poppy" and "CoCo" dedicated their lives to raising their grandchildren. Steve had many friends and will be missed by all who knew him.
Pallbearers will be Charles Lanclos, Eddie Baker, Clifford Scott, Dean Carter, Steve James, and Mike Buchanan. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The First Tee of The Piney Woods, c/o Alpine Target Golf Center, 2695 Alpine Rd, Longview, TX, 75605.
