Peggy Nell Franks Strohe left this world at the age of 93, on Sunday, July 23, 2017 at home, surrounded by loved ones. She was a wonderful friend and mentor to so many. Peggy gave sage advice to those who visited her after school at McPhail Hardware and they carried that advice throughout their lives. Her many “children” loved her unconditionally and continued to seek her advice and experience her love and deep devotion to God. She always gave him the glory for her long happy life. She never feared death…..because she had no reason too!
Peggy was born February 4, 1924, to Luther Duncan Franks and Paula Goodlet Franks Humphries in Saltillo, TX. She married her best friend, Louis Frederick “Buddy” Strohe on December 10, 1943 in Marshall, TX. They celebrated almost 59 years of marriage until his death on September 11, 2002. Peggy and Buddy had no children of their own but called their friends children their “little boys and girls” and they showered much love and devotion on them.
Peggy was a proud Marshall Maverick and graduated from Marshall High School in 1941. She received many honors in school and served her team as a cheerleader. She graduated from Saint Mary’s School of Business and began her career at Marshall Basket Factory then later at McPhail Hardware. When her husband went into business for himself at Jefferson Auto Supply she joined him in that venture and continued until she sold the business in 2004.
Peggy was a lover of the outdoors especially Lake O’ the Pines where she and Buddy made their home. She played tennis and golf and was an excellent water skier. She and Buddy introduced water skiing to Caddo Lake and taught many young people to ski. Peggy loved all sports and especially the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Longhorns!
Peggy loved traveling and was blessed to see much of Gods beautiful world! She also loved animals and called Zoey, Missy, and Gomez her own!
Most of all, Peggy loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and worshiped him at her church, Christ Episcopal in Jefferson, TX. She served in many capacities including on the Vestry. She was also an honored woman of the Diocese of Texas who was recently presented with the “Holy Order of the Golden Chalice” for her service, faithfulness, good cheer, courage, and for the truth of Christ Jesus portrayed in her life.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother, Wayne Franks; and two nieces, Dinah Franks Langley and Belle Franks. She is survived by her nieces, Paula Franks Rider, and Dawn Franks Creel; a special niece, Geraldine Mauthe; her very special friend and care giver, Becky Webb; her God children, Felicia Padgett Griffin, Vista and Beth Padgett; a host of other family members and friends.
