L. B. Strong passed away to reside in Glory and join his loving wife of 58 years, Audine. He suffered a fatal heart attack Sunday afternoon, April 30th after a short illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Buford and Lola Strong, and three brothers, Bud, Ray, and James.
L.B. was born March 21, 1932. He was a life-long resident of Marshall where he was born, lived, worked, and raised his family. He was a devoted and caring husband and dad who loved his family and his grandsons above everything. He always had a smile and a kind word for others and will be sorely missed.
L.B. was a proud solider of the U.S. Army and a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He held a variety of jobs over the years from paper carrier to truck driver. After retiring from TXU in 1997 he enjoyed many years working in the yard, tinkering with his tractor and traveling with his wife and family. He and Audine loved to cruise and were able to enjoy seven cruises together over the years. They also built and enjoyed a vacation cabin in the Smokey Mountains where many happy memories were made.
L.B. is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Donnie and Cathy Hyde of Marshall; his daughter, Kay Dennis of College Station; sister, Louise Granger and husband Joe of Marshall; grandsons, Jeff and April Hyde of Nashville, TN, Jason and Jessica Hyde, and Josh and Taylor Hyde, all of Tyler; Matt Dennis and Andy Dennis both of College Station; four great-grandchildren with another on the way, and a host of nieces and nephews.
L.B. and Audine were faithful members of Fairview Baptist Church in Marshall where he loved his many church friends and was able to serve in several capacities over the years.
Visitation for L.B. will be Tuesday evening, May 2nd from 6:00 until 7:00 P.M. at Sullivan Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow on Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. at New Grover Cemetery on Gum Springs Road. Pastor Jim Houston of Fairview Baptist Church will officiate.
