Welcome to the memorial page for

Anne Blalock Bunten

March 30, 1934 ~ May 27, 2017 (age 83)
Anne Blalock Bunten, 83, peacefully passed away on May 27, 2017, in Dallas, Texas. Anne had a magical smile, and a gift for caring and sharing with those around her. She truly made the world a brighter place for her family and friends.

Anne was born in Dallas on March 30, 1934, to Ruby and Richard W. Blalock. She graduated from Marshall High School, Bradford Junior College and the University of Texas at Austin, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. While in college, she was honored to be selected as the Texas representative in the Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington D.C. and a Duchess in the Tyler Rose Festival.

On June 30, 1956, Anne married John R. Bunten, the love of her life. They met as teenagers on a train going to Camp Lake Hubert and Camp Lincoln in Minnesota. Through summers as campers and counselors, they developed a long lasting friendship. After several years apart, they rekindled their relationship and got married.

Spending summers at the cabin on Gull Lake in Minnesota with her family brought great happiness to Anne. One of her favorite traditions was that all of her children and grandchildren attended the same camps where she and John met.

Anne’s sweet demeanor and ability to talk with anyone was one of her finest qualities. She would immediately put you at ease and by the end of a conversation; you would feel as though she was your closest friend. She learned early in life the importance of helping others and giving back to the community. In addition to being a loving wife, mother and grandmother, Anne was actively involved and held leadership positions in many social and civic organizations, including Camp Fire Girls, Junior League of Dallas, Dallas Woman’s Club, Dallas Garden Club, various HPISD organizations and Kappa Kappa Gamma. Her generosity, kindness and love to all were never ending.

A true “southern lady”, Anne leaves behind a family she loved and cherished dearly and who will remember her always with joy in their hearts. She is survived by her husband, John R. Bunten, her children John Bunten Jr and wife Dana Lou, Anne Fisher and husband Jeff, Betty Bullington and husband Michael and Richard Bunten and wife Tricia. Her grandchildren Laura Bunten, Elizabeth Newman and husband JW, Kelly Bunten, John Bunten III, Robert Fisher and wife Taelor, Sarah Fisher, Anne Marie Bullington, Jeanne Anne Bullington, Brian Bunten and Ben Bunten, who adoringly called her “Nana”. In Laws, Barbara and Bob Bunten, Joanne and Bill Bunten, Susie and Steve Bunten, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to her wonderful caregivers, Jessica Freeman and Yolanda Fry, who were so loving and supportive.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Friday, June 2, 2017 at 11 am in the Sanctuary of the Highland Park United Methodist Church, 3300 Mockingbird Lane, Dallas, TX, 75205. Graveside services will be conducted at Grange Hall Cemetery, Marshall, TX on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 2:00 pm. Dr. Randy Fitzgerald will be officiating.
